In a post shared to her Instagram Story on Wednesday, December 24, Williams said her infant, Estelle, suffered cardiac arrest in the middle of the night. She revealed that doctors performed chest compressions for 47 minutes before placing the three-month-old on full life support using ECMO. Williams described the days ahead as frightening, adding that doctors are still evaluating what options may come next.
A GoFundMe page set up for the family states that Estelle was born healthy on September 5. However, about 14 hours after her birth, a pediatrician noticed a heart murmur. Doctors later diagnosed the newborn with two ventricular septal defects, meaning small holes in the walls of her heart. The condition can interfere with normal blood flow and requires close medical monitoring.
